Teaching Communities & Networks

Two women seated across from each other in a classroom engage in conversation during a breakout session, with open laptops and documents on the desk.

Being part of a teaching community or network is a great way to make Rutgers feel smaller, engage with colleagues facing similar situations, and obtain guidance on teaching. Several communities exist within Rutgers and beyond that might be of interest.

Teaching Fellowships

Five panelists sit at a red table with microphones in front of them, smiling and ready for a discussion in a lecture hall.

Full-time faculty can engage in year-long fellowship programs that support scholarly teaching or their efforts related to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Teaching & Learning Pathways & Series

A woman leads a small group discussion in a classroom, as three seated participants listen and take notes.

Several initiatives are intentionally designed for sustained engagement through a pathway to build specific competencies. Below are a few which include student modules that can

be integrated into course Canvas sites.

Teaching Institutes, Conferences, Symposia

Seven participants sit around a conference table with laptops open, actively engaging in a meeting or workshop.

Networking, the exchange of ideas, and significant growth can occur within more intensive initiatives such as conferences, retreats, and institutes.

Instructional Design or Technology Support

Two colleagues sit at a table in a colorful room with LEGO models, chatting while working on laptops and reviewing materials.

Rutgers has a variety of supports for instructors’ technology needs focused on using Canvas, teaching online, and other needs.

Teaching Grants and Awards

A group of people stand in a library holding certificates, smiling alongside a facilitator in an orange top, with a Rutgers University Press sign visible in the background.

Several opportunities exist to support teaching innovations and enrichment through grants and other awards and programs.

Adult & Continuing Education Programs

Two women stand in conversation near a wall and a sign, one speaking while the other listens thoughtfully with her hand on her chin.

Instructors interested in furthering their teaching growth through certificate programs can consider courses offered by Adult and Continuing Education.
